Early in its establishment, CQI recognized the need for young people and parents to be involved in the planning and quality improvement of their systems of care. Activities here include:

In 2000 and 2001, CQI worked with young people to develop a survey for adolescents receiving outpatient care, and a separate one for their parents/guardians.

In 2001, CQI received a consumer seed action grant from Center for Health Care Strategies (a project of Robert Wood Johnson Foundation) to establish the Youth in Transition Citizenship Project.

In 2003, CQI conducted an evaluation of the Massachusetts Coordinated Family Focused Care program, interviewing a set of parents who were in the program and a set of parents who were no longer in the program.

From 2005-2006,CQI conducted interviews with parents who had worked with Family Stabilization Teams and had been discharged from the program to learn about their experiences with FST.

In 2006 CQI conducted evaluations of several family based programs, including conducting an evaluation of MHSPY, a wraparound program in Massachusetts that served MassHealth recipients.  CQI conducted qualitative interviews with parents who had completed the program.  In addition to this, CQI conducted evaluations of two other family based programs, including interviewing caregivers who were receiving services through the Enhanced Outpatient Program (EOP).  CQI also conducted a follow up qualitative evaluation of the Coordinated Family Focused Care program (CFFC) to assess families' experiences with the program as well as differences in the program since its inception.

Currently, CQI is working with the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership (MBHP) to conduct phone interviews with caregivers whose families are receiving wraparound services, in order to assess fidelity to the model.
